As the steward of the S.S.Virginia V, The Steamer Virginia V Foundation has the never-ending task of maintaining and operating an 80+ year-old wooden steamship. Want to help? We’d love to have you join us!
Lake Union Boats Afloat Show, Sept. 16 – 20
Stop by the Historic Ships Wharf during the Boats Afloat Show Sunday, September 20, for a free open ship aboard the Virginia V. Tour the ship and learn about her history and impact on the culture of the Pacific Northwest.
The ship will be open from 12NOON – 4pm on Sunday.
The Virginia V is located on Lake Union at the Historic Ships Wharf just north of the Naval Armory building, adjacent to Lake Union Park, at 860 Terry Ave. N. From the main hub of the Boats Afloat Show, walk west down Valley Street and turn right at Terry Avenue, or just cross the docks at The Center for Wooden Boats and walk around the wharf.

![]() Come aboard the V5 for an educational and enjoyable afternoon cruise through the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks with a presentation by the Program Director for Visitor Services, J. Wells. Jay will speak about the history of Lake Union and how the ship canal came into being; the history of Salmon Bay: what it was like before the locks were built; and also about the locks operation and how unique the site is. Enjoy the sights, sounds, cash bar and snacks!We hope to see you there!
Boarding will begin at 12:30pm from the Historic Ships Wharf in South Lake Union. Transportation back from Elliott Bay is available for an additional fee.

Come aboard the Virginia V to celebrate the 87th anniversary of her first cruise and the work of our amazing volunteers that has kept her going.
To our cherished former, current, and prospective volunteers and their families,
Thank you for your tireless hours of work and years of dedication.
Please join us June 11th aboard the Steamer Virginia V for an evening of fun, food and drink to celebrate you and the work you have done to “keep the steam up” since her first cruise on this date in 1922.
Guests will enjoy a dockside happy hour beginning at 5pm. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the history of the ship and for new attendees to to hear about the possibilities of volunteering. So bring your friends and family!
