Meet Our Staff

Get to know the Virginia V Foundation team!

Debra Alderman, MAEd, Executive Director

Debra Alderman joined the Virginia V Foundation in January 2020 and is working to get to know the Virginia V’s crew, volunteers, leaders and members. She’s working on developing a network of Virginia V “alumni” and friends throughout the region and beyond in preparation for our big centennial celebration in 2022. She is also enjoying expanding her network of contacts in the Seattle maritime and non-profit communities and exploring collaborations that can help us achieve our mission.

Debra’s work experience includes several years as a professional association executive director. Previously she directed continuing education programs at a small university.  She holds a master’s degree in adult and community-based education from Antioch University Seattle and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Washington.  In addition, Debra holds the Certified Interpretive Guide designation through the National Association for Interpretation.

Debra is a life-long boater including three amazing years in her young adulthood crewing and helping to maintain the historic Dutch botter jacht Groote Beer.  On summer weekends these days, if she’s not giving tours at the Alki Point Lighthouse, you might spot her out on the Sound serving as mate aboard  her 1964 Fairliner, “Tempus Puget”  along with skipper Moti Krauthamer and their ship’s pooch, Lulu.

In Debra’s spare time she is a leader in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Debra and Moti have two adult children and Debra particularly cherishes every minute she can spend with their toddler grandson.

Caitlin Spence, Communications and Membership Manager

Caitlin Spence joined the VIRGINIA V team in March of 2019. She enjoys sharing the many tales this old ship holds, and celebrating the members and donors who keep her sailing after nearly a century on the water. Caitlin has worked in nonprofit communications and program development for 10 years, and holds a master's degree in public administration. When she's not working, Caitlin loves experiencing Seattle through the eyes of her very active toddler. On the weekends, you can find them exploring a local museum, pool, theatre, zoo, or aquarium.
